We are excited to release our next record The Invisible Way on March 19, 2013 (March 18 in the UK) on Sub Pop Records. The record was produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, engineered by Tom Schick and recorded in Wilco’s studio The Loft in Chicago, IL, this fall.
“While driving through Chicago on tour, we finally stopped to visit Wilco at their studio, The Loft. They had invited us to come check it out several times over the years, but this would finally be the day…What really converted us was hearing the new Mavis Staples tracks they were working on – big, simple, raw and intimate. Plans were made then and there.” – Alan
We also have a new six-song live set called Plays Nice Places for you to download that includes a new song called “Waiting” and a version of “Words” featuring Death Cab for Cutie’s Benjamin Gibbard on bass and vocals. The songs were recorded at various historic theaters on our April 2012 tour with DCFC. Download Plays Nice Places in the widget off to your right and feel free to share it with a friend who would enjoy. The track listing is below:

"Untogether marks a very specific time in my life where things began falling apart," explains Lee. "Writing it was my first step to recover from bad wounds I was never comfortable discussing with anybody. One of my last steps was moving from my home in Los Angeles to start fresh in Austin, TX where our bassist Kent was already living."
The new album sees the band continuing to refine and expand their sound, picking up where last year's Paper Crush EP left off. The EP's lead single 'Teenage Tide' was featured on the television show 90210, with Rolling Stone calling it "a blissful, shimmery track" and USA Today raving, "it captures the essence of teen dreams." In 2009 the band released its self-titled full-length, which was met with unanimous critical acclaim.

For Now is the second EP by Brooklyn duo Beacon, five songs that continue the band's exploration of the dark spaces under the surface of human relationships. As with the band's debut EP No Body, For Now is a record that conceals a great deal of depth beneath a melodic veneer—again, there's a stark contrast between Thomas Mullarney's honeyed vocals and the words he's singing, although this time the mood is perhaps less sinister and more reflective. And again, themes of fractured love are prominent, particularly the distinction between love and lust, and what happens when the former falls away, leaving only the latter to fester: as Mullarney sings on third track "Pulse", "It's a long walk from lust to love… And if I get caught, it's not my fault."
Musically, this is perhaps the best realization yet of Beacon's synthesis of darker, creeping R&B sound, anchored by a strong bass and electronic music influence.. The sound design is immaculate, employing minimal, bass-heavy templates embellished with judicious melodic flourishes. "Feeling's Gone," for instance, starts with a distinctly rave-y synth line, but one that sounds somehow muted and diminished, like the faint memory of a night long past—a feeling that echoes the song's lyrics, which relate the temptation of trying to rekindle a love that's gone. Elsewhere, the gentle synth arpeggios of "Safety's Off" recall The Knife's "Silent Shout," while the hip hop beats of "Pulse" and "Into the Night" acknowledge the band's R&B influences. And underpinning it all is the bass—a constant presence that's brooding, dark and atmospheric throughout.
Not so much the party and the after party as the party and the aftermath, the abiding impression left by For Now is of that strange, empty time of night when the party's over and everyone's gone home… but you can't sleep, so you sit and stare into the dark and wait for the dawn to come.

New album 'Nocturne' is out August 27th/28th on Captured Tracks and Bella Union.
Ask Jack Tatum what ‘Wild Nothing’ means and he’ll answer: ‘a contradiction’. In 2010, 21 year old Tatum released one of the finest cult pop records of the summer whilst ensconced in his senior year of college in Blacksburg, VA, a small mid-atlantic town better known for producing football fans and engineers than musicians. Tatum lives in contradictions. You’ll often hear Wild Nothing referred to as a ‘one man pop band’. Jack creates in the studio, alone. On the road, he’s with a band. There are two Wild Nothings.
The critically acclaimed debut ‘Gemini’ was underpinned with summery childhood longings, and shot through with the instant dichotomy of anxiety and almost whimsical paranoia. The album, which was home recorded by Tatum and rooted heavily in 80′s indie-pop, quickly gained popularity through the internet. Tatum assembled a band of Virginia friends and hit the road for the first time. ‘Gemini’ showed a promising future for a songwriter who wore his influences on his sleeve while still approaching pop craftsmanship in his own way. When asked about it in regards to ‘Nocturne’, Jack states: “I don’t think it’s going to be a secret to anyone that I care about pop music, but it’s definitely more my sense of what pop music used to be or even what pop music would be in my ideal world.”
The new album ‘Nocturne‘ is a window into Tatum’s “ideal world” of pop music. ‘Gemini’ was written before there were Wild Nothing fans or even a live band; ‘Nocturne’ is different. With an unexpected fanbase to turn to, Jack spent more time perfecting his craft. The obsessiveness of ‘Nocturne’ is inherent in it’s gentle harmonies, orchestrated synths, wandering voice, and songs that speak of his post-Gemini experiences as he explores new paradoxes of pop.
Nocturne is released 27th August on Bella Union records.
Prior to this the track ‘Shadow’ will be released as a 7″ single on 6th August.

Twin Shadow, the creative moniker of George Lewis Jr., will release his second album, Confess, on July 9th. Self-produced and with mixing duties handled by Michael H. Brauer (Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney), the follow-up to 2010's Forget ("Impressive." The Sunday Times ****) finds Lewis Jr. doing what he does best; remembering and reinventing, and fashioning a soundtrack which sounds refreshingly and distinctly modern.

This is the second album from Lotus Plaza, the solo nom de plume of Lockett Pundt, better known as the guitarist in Deerhunter. Pundt has penned a number of the best songs on the last two Deerhunter albums, and his first album, The Floodlight Collective was a tour de force of guitar pop smarts.
He has the uncanny ability to build soaring, melodic gems from simple musical phrases; a möbius strip of a guitar line and repeating clipped drum roll in "Strangers"; a tribal drum beat holding down the foundation on "Out of Touch"; two acoustic guitar chords and a slight bit of snare as the basis for "Dusty Rhodes"; a series of slowly descending piano chord scales on "Jet Out of the Tundra".
There is a wide variety of songs and moods here, from unabashed rockers such as "White Galactic One" and "Monoliths", acoustic laced introspection on "Dusty Rhodes" and "Black Buzz", to the lysergic electronics of "Remember Our Days".
Spooky Action at a Distance is a wide angle view of what should be the zeitgeist of contemporary guitar pop.

It's no secret that within Domino there is a lot of love for Teenage Fanclub, and that some members of staff have a special fondness for the songs of singer, songwriter and bassist, Gerard Love. In recent times, Gerard has been very much part of The Pastels, who operate occasional Domino imprint, Geographic. The idea of an album of Gerard Love songs burned for a long time until eventually label enthusiasm prevailed, and Gerard agreed that it was an idea that he too was excited about.
From the outset, Gerard was clear that he wanted to establish a group name for the record, a name that was evocative and ambiguous, that could somehow place the music within a slightly blurry and imagined context. He didn't want to give the impression that the record was just about him. Having settled on the name, Lightships, he sought out a cast of Glasgow-based friends to play on the record that was starting to take shape in his head; Dave McGowan (guitar, Teenage Fanclub), Brendan O'Hare (drums, from the first incarnation of Teenage Fanclub), Tom Crossley (flute, International Airport and The Pastels) and Bob Kildea (bass, Belle & Sebastian).
Liberated by a feeling that he had complete carte blanche to do whatever he wanted, Gerard came to a realisation that the key to the sound of the record would be tremolo, delay and flute. At times the record has the dynamics of a soundtrack, as one of Tom Crossley’s flute lines weaves into the ether and Gerard’s vocals bounce off each other. Or, as on "Sweetness In Her Spark", the group lock into a relaxed and breezy groove that demands the windows be flung open.
Lightships is a name that perfectly captures the atmosphere of the music - sparkling and radiant and illuminated throughout by Love’s melodic gifts and taste for adventurous arrangements. The overall sound, while as warm and immediate as the songs Gerard writes for Teenage Fanclub, is more free flowing and loose. "Muddy Rivers" is carried along on a wave of interlocked instrumentation while "Photosynthesis" is a hazy wash of flutes and echo. On "Silver And Gold", Gerard sings with a falsetto before a chorus of harmonies bursts into life. With this music it’s as if he was looking to express something more personal, eccentric and introspective.
Electric Cables is an album of tender, observational songs, played with an invigorating and easy sense of purpose; the sound of friends enjoying one another’s company and allowing ideas and experiments to flourish. It's a complex and rewarding record that you'll want to keep coming back to. Slow illumination.
