Midnight City (Single)

'Midnight City' is the first track from M83's forthcoming album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'. M83 will release his epic new double album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming in October.

Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and including contributions from Brad Laner (from 90's band Medicine) on guitar, Saturdays=Youth vocalist Morgan Kibby, and guest vocalist Zola Jesus, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is a double-album journey that takes us to the horizon and introduces us to new landscapes.

"I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It's a compilation of all my previous music together. It's a retrospective of myself", says Anthony.

In the 25th anniversary of Throwing Muses debut album release, 4AD are issuing the first ever compilation of the bands work, simply entitled Anthology, on September 5th 2011.

Founded by step sisters Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly and featuring the unconventional drumming of David Narcizo, Throwing Muses have consistently created challenging music. Compiled by the band, the first American act to sign to 4AD, the twenty-one track selection eschews most of the singles in favour of personal favourites, and enjoys a non-chronological sequence which makes for interesting juxtapositions and encourages a reassessment of the music. The initial limited release comes in a hardback book with a bonus twenty-two track CD of B-sides and rarities.

'Hillbilly' is a previously unreleased track and 'If' and 'Heel Toe' were only released in the USA. Additionally 'Back Road (Matter Of Degrees)' is an early version used in the movie and featuring Tanya while 'Amazing Grace', 'Manic Depression', 'Ride Into The Sun', 'Crayon Sun', one version of 'Cry Baby Cry', 'Jak' and 'If' are all covers. This is also probably the only release which features two different songs with the same name ('Cry Baby Cry').

In light of the release of Anthology, Kristin Hersh had this to say:

”It’s beautiful and substantial, thanks to awesome David Narcizo / Lakuna Design - a chunky, 28 page hardcover booklet and two CDs - one CD consisting of a hand-selected retrospective track-list by Kristin, David and Bernard, and on the other the collected B-sides, including the original Lonely is an Eyesore version of 'Fish', the long-lost 'Hillbilly' and the original version of 'Back Road (Matter of Degrees)'. And yes, the release will be supported by Throwing Muses live dates.”

Formed in 2008 Pallers produced their debut EP "Humdrum in Spain with a view over over the Mediterranean. During one week of constant sunshine they created the dark electronica under the motto "Dance music for the lazy, the blazers and for the slightly depressed."

The 12" vinyl EP "Humdrum" was released in the winter 2008/2009 and the title track become an immediate blog success topping charts like Hypem and Elbo.ws. It was followed by the equally successful single "The Kiss" in 2010 and the winter hymn "Arctic hymn" around Christmas the same year.

Late spring 2011 Pallers put the finishing touch to their monumental debut album "The Sea of Memories". Ten tracks where every influence finds it's place in an ever shimmering mosaic. The wealth of details, the ever growing melodies and epic soundscapes transforms the listening experience into a space voyage of emotional discoveries.
The album was produced and recorded during three years time in apartments, basements, villas and cabins in Pallers, La mar, Stockholm, Miami and Cape Town
Both members come from the same small town in the south of Sweden, Ã…hus, and have known each other half their lives; they've explored Stockholm's night life together, travelled Europe and experienced everything from the glamour of Southern Spain to the dirty floors of German clubs… etc. But they've never made music together before Pallers.
Half of the duo has a love for ambient, trip hop and electronica while the other is deeply involved in the world of pop. Pallers integrate the seemingly tricky components with such ease it almost seems effortless – turning it into something new - something of their very own.

The Stills

THE STILLS ANNOUNCE AMICABLE END TO DECADE-LONG CAREER

The Stills - One of the best indie bands ever

The following is an open letter from The Stills to fans and supporters, announcing the band's dissolution after its decade-long existence. At this time the band does not wish to comment further.
-------------------------------
Dearest Friends of The Stills,
How does one go about writing a message like this? I don't know, but I will do my best.
We have been silent for many months now, discussing amongst ourselves how and when to announce this news, as we've needed some time to think it over and let the dust settle, so we hope you can understand our silence.
After the better part of a decade together, several months ago we sat down and decided to disband The Stills and part ways. Simply put, The Stills have broken up.
We love each other, we have taught each other, and we've grown up together, through all kinds of madness and years and twists and turns, and we spent the better part of the last year trying to keep it going for each other, out of love for one another and out of respect for our long past together. But ultimately, the best decision for each one of us, and in order for each of us to live fully, creatively, and freely, being true to our hearts, this had to happen.
Perhaps the most difficult part of all this is announcing it to you - I hesitate to say 'fans' - Our Friends. We've been extremely lucky to have shared this time with you, and for the love you've shown us, we are humbled, moved and thankful beyond words. You held us up, you encouraged us, and you made this a profound and deeply meaningful journey for each of us. Please know in your hearts that we felt your love and will always keep it with us in our own hearts as we move on through life.
To all who helped us through the years, encouraged us, supported us, worked with us, put up with us, put our records out, toured with us, loved us, and beyond - we are forever touched by you.
We were creating our own story as we went. It's not easy to know when the best ending is, but we found ours, and it's one that allows us to look back on all we've achieved with great pride and a sense of real accomplishment. Now that the book closes, we can look on the journey and see it as one trip, from beginning to end; one complete and perfectly imperfect universe.
And now our music and what it means rests in your hands. It belongs fully to the world out there, and especially to you. Make it all you wish it to be, in whichever way you most want to.
May your lives be filled with joy and happiness,
The Stills
April 2011.

ABOUT THE STILLS

Appearing on the horizon at the dawn of the aughts, Montreal’s The Stills grew from a sharp, post-punk inspired four-piece to savvy, stylish songwriters counted among Canada’s best established indie rock outfits.
The Stills’ earliest incarnation - as vocalist Tim Fletcher, drummer Dave Hamelin, guitarist Greg Paquet and bassist Oliver Corbeil - formed in 2001 and was unveiled after a two-month stint in NYC landed them on Vice Records in 2003.
The band’s early sound, a fuzzy, stylized nod to the likes of Echo and The Bunnymen, Ride and Joy Division, manifested itself wholly on that year’s astonishing debut LP Logic Will Break Your Heart and launched international tours with Interpol, The Strokes and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs that quickly cemented the band’s profile amidst a burgeoning Montreal scene and beyond.
Tours of the U.K. helped The Stills score three chart-topping singles from their debut and seven years later Logic would appear on countless critics’ aughts-end lists for its place in shaping the sounds that emerged in the latter half of the decade.
Paquet left the band in late ‘04 and the band released its sophomore effort, Without Feathers, in 2006. The record was seen as a major departure, a surprising and bold exploration of more roots-driven rock territory spurred on by the widespread popularity of their debut.
In 2007 the band set out on another career-altering tour, this time with Broken Social Scene, in the process forming a powerful bond with the sprawling Canadian collective and setting the stage for a 2008 move from Vice to Arts & Crafts.
Later that year, with the new imprint behind them, The Stills released their third record, Oceans Will Rise, at once calling back to longtime fans and drawing in legions of new appreciators with its most sonically robust and anthemic effort to date. Oceans Will Rise would go on to earn The Stills Juno Awards for Best New Group and Alternative Album of the Year.
The band toured tirelessly in support of Oceans Will Rise, performing alongside Kings Of Leon, Metric and Sam Roberts Band. The Stills' impressive decade-long career now comes to a quiet close, not far removed from its apex, and with their legacy firmly entrenched as one of the 21st century's quintessential indie rock outfits.

Once prolific, Idaho singer/songwriter Jeff Martin all but disappeared on us, working instead in the equally creative field of TV, movie, and documentary soundtracks, to which his vision is singularly suited. This strangely titled eighth LP is his first since 2005’s more experimental, half-instrumental, keyboards-entranced, almost Eno-esque The Lone Gunman, and only his second since 2001’s more regular Levitate. Perhaps the 2008 reissue of his 1997-1998 efforts working with former foil Dan Seta— Alas and The Forbidden EP on one CD—rejuvenated his interest in Idaho, as Dick picks up the thread of that period’s tracks such as “Only in the Desert” and “Bass Crawl.” It’s a mellow, misty-roses-beautiful piece of work, atmospheric like the weather right after it finishes raining. That’s not atypical for Martin, especially since Idaho the band became his sole preoccupation, a refined evolution from founding slowcore/sadcore days as L.A.’s answer to Red House Painters, American Music Club, and Low. His acoustic and custom four-string guitars’ unique tonal qualities assert themselves in subtle fashions, such as on a fuzzy instrumental “Impaler” (ah, classic mid ‘90s Idaho!), the more drums-centered “Up the Hill” and the up-tempo buzz of “The Space Between,” while several others like “Reminder” and “Someone to Relate To” are his sweetly sad piano meditations in the Neil Young “Soldier” mode—his low, trembling, sighing voice filling in the melodic movements. It’s music to accompany crossing the Mojave Desert, and outside of Wheat’s Medeiros and Husband & Wife’s Dark Dark Woods, no one else ever came close to Martin’s moist morning mood; and after so long gone, I’d forgotten how much I love it.
